The Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) was established in Seoul, South Korea in 2004 by a Founding Committee consisting of thirteen university representatives from across the Asia Pacific region, and has since expanded to become a thriving association. APAIE aims to encourage greater cooperation between institutions, to enrich and support international programmes, activities and exchanges, and to promote the value of international education across the region and beyond. In doing so, APAIE devotes itself to the principles of mutual respect, diversity and collective progress.

The APAIE Conference and Exhibition debuted in 2006 with 400 delegates and now attracts over 2,500 delegates. The growing attendance each year at the Conference reflects the burgeoning interest in the region and recognition of the Asia Pacific's important role in international education.
This year's theme is meant to remind the international community that the Pacific is vast and washes up on many shores, in Asia as well as in the Americas and the islands in between. Each region, country and city has different cultures, societal norms, and learning environments that students would greatly benefit from experiencing. The theme shines a light on the new realities in the current education landscape and reinforces the importance of internationalization.
Conference delegates include:
  • Officers responsible for international mobility of students, faculty and staff
  • Government representatives and policymakers
  • National and regional international education organizations and associations
  • Leaders in interculturalism, internationalization and the student experience
  • Leaders in advancing opportunities for indigenous and newcomer communities in international education
  • Presidents, vice chancellors, directors and principals in higher education
